Entitled: What I learned at parochial school
Long post, several topics. Trying my best at the paragraph business. Someday I'll be able to do the outline style Jennie is so fond of :)
Alright, quick recap of the day. Farm day. Heard murmurs, saw a horse, mock interview, saw some pigs, saw some sheep. Didn't touch much. Came home and slept.
Thank you notes: My friends are awesome with the thank you notes. I'm horrible at them. I think I send thank you emails... They must have read that book Jennie has about how great thank you notes are...
Religion: So, I think my loyal readers know that I attended parochial (Catholic) school from K-12th grade. Since the later years of high school, I haven't been much of a believer. Since becoming friendly with a devout Protestant, I've been converted. Just kidding. But, learning the differences between the religions and how catholicism is viewed, I've been thinking about it lately. Apparently, I didn't have the catholic schooling that most people either have had or think happens. I was never taught that homosexuality was wrong or to not use birth control or that abortion was wrong. It was sort of implied but very much a personal thing. Religion class focused mainly on the golden rule (do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you) and on relationships, autonomy, and giving all of yourself to other people. We never did much with the bible and there wasn't much talk about a relationship with god. If you could be the best person you could to everyone else, that was good enough. After 13 years, it certainly permeated through. While I still don't think I believe in god (watch out for lightning bolts as my dad would warn me), I still abide by these teachings. I think some catholics take the religion above and beyond and lost sight of what is the center of the religion. Me thinks that I am following the common path of a catholic, lots of faith in youth, near none as young adult, and a return to faith somewhere in the childbearing years (30s) and then extreme faith near death. But hey, it's a good thing god is forgiving :)
Politic rant: Goddamn it! would the frigging democrats get it together in this state?!? That way I don't have to vote republican for state offices again! So, it looks like the forerunner for the next governor (Romney is not running again, and supposedly is going to president, which is great, cuz sure as hell he won't get elected because of his "liberal" Massachusetts ties/Mormonism) is attorney general Tom Reilly (sleazy lawyer). This guy picked a woman for running mate for Lt. governor and a day later it came out that she evaded taxes and is delinquent on student loans (!!!) So, credibility shot to hell. Oh man. So, you know whats going to happen, the democrat vote will be split and the damn GOP nominee will be elected. Damnit. I'm kind of ashamed to be democrat in this very blue state. Please, democrat party heads - get it together and back a solid candidate. I'd like to see the current Lt. gov Kerry Healy run, even though she is a republican. She seems pretty competent, for a woman :) Check out more on boston.com if you are interested.
Media scare: When was the last time you washed that bath towel? It's full of germs you know. Every year thousands of people die because of using towels used more than twice (ok, that last fact is just a projection). http://www1.whdh.com/features/articles/specialreport/BO13692/
Lastly: Bad tv. Nancy pulled me into "Beauty and the Geek" on the WB. It's really horrible, and the this time i watched it, it was too awful even for me, and I like trashy tv. But, after two more episodes, yea, I'll be watching next week. Granted, tv sucks lately. Tonight's episode was the "make over the geeky guys" night and I'm convinced the guys were chosen by the producers for been dorks that would clean up well. It's should be named "Bimbos and WPI alums" or maybe "WPI sorority girls and CS majors" (Sorry Jenn, not you :)
And bed...
