Drunken Christine Strikes Again
So, I'm exhausted and only got 4 hours of sleep last night but have a list of things to blog about, not that my life has been very exciting as of late, but I finally have some free time and even though I'm tired, I do not want to submit to sleep.
Let's begin. I studied all last week, had an exam Friday. Friday night was a lovely halloween party at a classmates at which I dressed very slutty (see facebook or myspace for proof) and got buzzed. While I appeared very drunk, I was not, I fed off others and just sort of let loose. How can anyone get drunk on cheap kegger is beyond me. I did leave my crap places, which I have a tendency to do when drunk. Plus, as evidence, I was not in the slightest hungover on Saturday. I would admit it if I was. Then Saturday I did nothing but be a lazy bitch. Sunday I cleaned up, read, and went to Barnes and Noble for a new book, a starbucks beverage, and just plain to get out of the apartment. I got two great, funny books. Me talk pretty one day and I know you're out there. The latter is hilarious and I cannot put it down.
New paragraph. Monday I went to class. Then Erin and Nancy came over for dinner and to work on the homework. Erin stayed and we watched Six feet under. Quite a good show. After she left, I submitted my homework and wrote a blog entry. I am also in the process of uploading artsy pics to my flicr account. I'll post the link when I finish.
New paragraph. I am addicted to coffee. I have on average two cups a day. Today I had three and a half.
New paragraph. With the elections a week away, I'd like to talk about voting. I already submitted my absentee ballot. I don't have much to say about the governor race or the other positions. The questions however I can articulate. I voted NO on #1 (the wine one), YES of #2 (the ballot one), and YES on #3 (the collective bargaining one).
I voted NO on #1 because I don't think we should increase the number of liquor licenses twofold in almost every town, I think it will eventually put packies and small wineries out of business, I don't want walmart and target to be able to sell wine, and want to limit the sources alcohol available illegally to minors. As far as the minors go, yes, if they want it they can get it, but we don't have to make it easier for them to acquire it. Teenagers work in grocery stores, not packies. The sixteen year old at Cumby's has no clue how to ID a fake and probably would never reject one. Wine has as high and in some brands higher alcohol by volume than beer. Massachusetts has a low drunk driving rate compared to other states. I'd like to keep the law the way it stands.
I voted YES on #2 because I like to support alternative parties. While I generally vote Democrat, I am registered as independent (like much of the state) and support the efforts of the Green-Rainbow party and others like it. The bipartisan government lacks a great deal and parties without secret interests and detrimental loyalties that hinder progress. Alternative parties need to be supported and heard. Voting YES on #2 will do this. If an alternative party wants to support, say the democratic candidate yet stills wants to appear on the ballot may do so. Thus Patrick, for example, would appear twice on the ballot for two different parties. A vote for either party would still go to Patrick. If people can grasp this concept, they shouldn't be voting anyway because they obviously are too ignorant to be informed on the candidates.
I voted YES on #3 because collective bargaining is always a good thing.
I'm upset with the healthcare proposal, but need to do some more research into it. I think forcing everyone to get healthcare without providing low cost options for those in the lower, working class is irresponsible. We should work to create a universal healthcare system, like Canada, in the state. If they can do it, we can. Taxpayers right now pay for people without healthcare to be seen. While it takes burden off the upper and middle class, those who can't afford healthcare now are pushed closer to poverty. We should offer affordable, standard healthcare to all residents. We should work on that and not this crappy legislation that sounds good and gets candidates elected, but just fucks the state in the end.
I don't think getting rid of the tolls on the pike is a good idea. It will put lots of people out of work and reduce a source of income for the state. Yes, toll collections does gross a certain percentage after paying employees and toll operation costs. While I would love not to get charge the buck 20 to go home and back, I don't think it is a responsible move for the state. But it looks good if you want to get votes.
I do not boycott MobilExxon, all oil companies fuck over the environment. I do boycott Walmart, Target (now), and other large chains. They are putting small businesses out of business (its late and I could not think of another way of saying it) and are bad to their employees. I shop at Stop and Shop because I don't have another choice. I might try Gorehtti's in Millbury next time.
Lastly, I saw egg nog being sold in the grocery store. This makes me want to have an xmas party with spiked nog, nice dinner, good people, xmas music, and decorations. I will need to plan this. Maybe even send out actual invitations... ooo... christmas makes me happy. I love holidays. I love Halloween.
I'm sorry this post was so long and boring. If you don't think it, go to hell and don't read my blog :)
